TULUM, Mexico – In the wake of major U.S. airlines unveiling plans to operate from the new Tulum airport, it is no surprise that Canada’s leading airline is stepping into the game.
Air Canada has announced its intentions to launch non-stop flights from Montreal and Toronto to Tulum next spring, marking the latest addition to airlines expressing their commitment to serve the burgeoning international airport in Tulum.
Commencing on May 3rd, the Toronto-Tulum route will offer two weekly frequencies, with service available on Fridays and Sundays. Meanwhile, the Montreal-Tulum service will operate once a week on Saturdays, starting from May 4th.
Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning at Air Canada expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, “We are thrilled to add two new destinations to our global network, Tulum, Mexico, from our hubs in Toronto and Montreal.”
Situated approximately two hours south of Cancun on the Riviera Maya, Tulum has evolved into one of the Caribbean-Mexico region’s most sought-after destinations in recent years, transforming from a quiet coastal town into a booming tourist hotspot.
Miguel Torruco Marqués, Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, emphasized the significance of connectivity for tourism, stating, “Without connectivity, there is no tourism, and the two new routes to the new International Airport of Tulum, set to accommodate five million passengers, will boost the arrival of tourists from our second-largest source market for international visitors.”
This strategic move by Air Canada reflects the growing allure of Tulum as a travel destination, and the increased accessibility is poised to contribute significantly to the region’s tourism industry. As the new routes take flight next spring, Tulum anticipates an influx of travelers eager to explore the charm and beauty of this burgeoning coastal gem.
