As the sun sets on the mystical lands of Tulum, an unparalleled celebration of music, culture, and ancient traditions is set to unfold. The Day Zero Festival, conceived by Damian Lazarus and his multifaceted team, is not just an event; it’s a journey through time and space, blending the ancient wisdom of Mayan rituals with the pulsating rhythms of modern hedonism.
Scheduled for January 12, 2024, Day Zero returns to the heart of Tulum’s exotic jungle. This event is more than a festival; it’s an odyssey through the physical and spiritual realms. Party-goers are invited to embark on a marathon-like voyage, traversing the avant-garde and the ancestral.
The festival’s backbone lies in its unique blend of ancient Mayan rituals and local guides’ performances, intertwined with mind-bending production technology. This amalgamation creates a tapestry where the modern and the mythical are inseparably intertwined. On this date, Day Zero will present an array of unique live sets and acts, featuring regional debuts and exclusive performances.
The lineup includes an eclectic mix of global underground elites, forward-thinking Mexican talents, and emerging artists from the Crosstown universe. This confluence promises a journey unlike any other in Tulum or the world.
Day Zero’s commitment extends beyond musical exploration. Echoing the Mayan reverence for the earth and its resources, the festival embodies a deep respect for the natural world. This is evident in its Crosstown Consciousness initiative, which aims to protect the environment. In partnership with Mexican company Petgas, the festival converts all production waste into fuel. Its recycling program sets a new standard for event operations in the region, blending a deep exploration of musical connection, natural world appreciation, and cultural immersion.
The festival will open with a traditional ceremony led by Siddhartha Siliceo, purifying the air to set the stage for the night’s festivities. The roster is a constellation of stars from the electronic music galaxy: from DJ Tennis, founder of Life and Death, to Detroit champion Seth Troxler, avant-garde maestro Acid Pauli, British selector Skream, and underground reference Dennis Cruz. The lineup continues to dazzle with Patrick Mason from Berlin, underground boss Dan Ghenacia, veteran Bartolomeo, BINH, New York house icon Joeski, Uruguay’s Nicholas Lutz, WhoMadeWho’s hybrid DJ, Parisian Chloé Caillet, Tibi Dabo, Oceanvs Orientalis, Los Eclipses, Mimi x Fy, and rising star Airrica.
In a special Tulum 2024 exclusive, South African icon Black Coffee will join Damian Lazarus for a legendary back-to-back set that will resonate until dawn, following their 2023 residency at Hï Ibiza.
Day Zero stands out as the first international festival in Mexico to create a stage exclusively for Mexican artists. El Teatro stage will showcase a variety of national talents with a future vision. The lineup includes stage curator Métrika, underground champion Mystery Affair, MN Roy founder Mandrake, Monterrey’s Kalexis Nocheydia, Sooscaveman, Cabizbajo, and the audiovisual set duo Shiro Schwarz.
“For this eleventh edition of Day Zero Tulum, I wanted to shake things up a bit and invite the best collection of old and new friends. Through the three stages in the jungle, we will present the ultimate music, performance, and artistic experience. Moreover, Black Coffee will perform exclusively in the region and join me in the legendary back-to-back session that will close in the morning. I can’t wait to open the doors and leave people in awe on January 12th,” says Damian Lazarus.
