In an ambitious move to enhance the waste management system across Tulum, Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo has spearheaded a significant initiative by distributing 750 new garbage containers. This move is set to revolutionize waste collection in 14 communities within the Maya zone, the transitional zone, and the municipal seat, marking a critical step towards environmental sustainability and public health in the region.
During the event, Mayor Castañón Trejo, accompanied by councilors and the municipal syndic, emphasized the council and the Municipal Public Services Department’s commitment to addressing the community’s long-standing demand. “The rapid development we are experiencing demands an increase in our capacities and efficiency,” stated Castañón Trejo. He underlined the necessity for an improved waste collection system to keep communities and the municipal head clean, prevent pest infestations, and ensure the area continues to meet environmental standards while maintaining its natural and sustainable character.
The General Directorate of Municipal Public Services has meticulously planned the distribution of these containers. Communities including Sacamucuy, Chanchen 1, Chanchen Palmar, Yaxchen, Hondzonot, San Juan, Cobá, Manuel Antonio Ay, Francisco Uh May, Macario Gómez, San Padre, Akumal, Chemuyil, and Punta Allen have each received large containers. Additionally, the municipal seat has been equipped with both large and small containers, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the municipality.
Mayor Castañón Trejo expressed that this initiative is a direct response to the citizens’ requests and is anticipated to benefit approximately 46,000 residents of Tulum. “We are listening to our citizens and addressing their requests. It’s essential that every peso entering the municipal coffers is reflected in the society’s benefit,” he said. This statement reflects a broader commitment to transparency and accountability in the utilization of public funds for community development.
